DR. TOMPIHE AWARDED A FELLOWSHIP AT PRINCETON UNIVERSITY

Dr. Jean G. TOMPIHE is Assistant Professor in the School of Business and Social Sciences at the International University of Grand Bassam (IUGB). His ongoing research agenda explores: Which Way Africa by 2050: the next Economic Eldorado or the Island of Chaos and Global Security Threat? Within this timely scholarly endeavor of great importance, his research was competitively awarded a Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Princeton University, for the consecutive 2020 and 2021 Summer Program in Social Science. “The Institute is pledged to assemble a group of scientists and scholars who…may devote themselves to the task of pushing beyond the present limits of human knowledge and to training those who may “carry on” in this sense”. IAS’s mission and culture have generated an outstanding record of triumph. Among its present and past Faculty and Members are 33 Nobel Laureates, including, Albert Einstein.

At the Institute, Dr. TOMPIHE’s research agenda will be directed as follows: With a dozen of the fastest growing economies, Africa’s growth rate is the second on the rise, just behind Asia. Moreover, the UN forecasts the African population to double to closely 2.5 billion by 2050. This anticipated doubling of the productive age in just 31 years could yield an impressive demographic dividend that can translate into unprecedented growth performances. But despite these looming potentials, development has, in general, declined in the continent—no more in “relative” but increasingly in “absolute” terms—against the backdrop of globalized prosperity.
